Ranches of the West
For generations, ranches have been the foundation of the American West. They are more than places where cattle are raised—they are where stewardship of the land, care for livestock, family traditions, and a way of life are passed from one generation to the next.
The National Western Ranches of the West recognizes outstanding working ranches whose commitment to agriculture has shaped our landscapes, strengthened rural communities, and sustained the cattle industry. These ranches represent every segment of the beef production system and tell the story of how cattle move from the open range to the consumer’s table.
Ranching is built on values that have defined the West for centuries—hard work, integrity, resilience, innovation, conservation, and respect for the land. Today’s ranchers continue to embrace those values while advancing genetics, animal health, environmental stewardship, and sustainable food production.
The Ranches of the West exhibit celebrates these remarkable operations and the families behind them. Their stories remind us that agriculture is not only our heritage—it is essential to our future. The future of the West begins on its ranches.
