Overview
In an effort to elevate the stage of freelance designers in the livestock community, the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) has created a unique opportunity. The 2022 Yards Banner Design Contest is a social media contest that allows voters to like and select their favorite designs slated to be the official artwork for the 2022 NWSS Yards Banner, all created by talented designers within the livestock industry.
For decades, the NWSS has offered special-edition vinyl Yards banner signs for exhibitors to purchase and advertise their business in their respective display pens. The 4ft. x 8ft. banner signs are displayed throughout the Yards and carry a new theme or saying each year. One half of the sign (4ft. x 4ft. square) is the collectible NWSS design, and the other half (4ft. x 4ft. square) is the farm/ranch logo, sale date, and contact information. A few examples are attached for your convenience.
The contest will be hosted by the NWSS Livestock Exhibitors’ social media outlets, and votes for each banner design will be tallied by the number of likes on each image. The banner design with the most likes by the end of the campaign/contest will be selected as the Official Yards Banner Design for the NWSS 2022. Likes will be tabulated by a 3rdparty service to assure accuracy.

Participation Benefits
- The designer with the most likes will be named the contest winner and receive $500.00!
- Designer’s business/social handles tagged on each social media post featuring your banner design during the contest.

- Recognition of winning designer’s business during the 2022 NWSS in the Yards.
- Opportunity to be a part of historic times! 2022 marks the Grand Opening of the new Stockyards and Stockyards Event Center at the NWSS. Your work will forever be signified as the artwork that was used for the first year of the New Yards.
- All designs will (winner and honorable mentions) be featured on the NWSS website with designer recognition through the duration of the 2022 NWSS.
- All participants will receive a complimentary 2022 NWSS collectors’ badge. (This badge grants grounds access for the entire NWSS 2022.)
Contest Timeline & Requirements
- August 13:
All designs due to NWSS staff via email and/or website submission.

Designers must submit business/preferred social handles, contact info and high-res logo must be submitted to NWSS for internal and promotional purposes. - August 18-August 23:
Voting will begin August 18 and will close August 23. - August 25:
Winner will be notified no later than August 25. - August 27:
Final artwork and design files must be delivered to NWSS staff via Dropbox/server link or NW website submission.
Native and fully-editable, layered files required are: .psd, .ai and/or .indd - The design with the most total likes across NWSS Livestock Exhibitors Facebook, Instagram and Twitter outlets at the time of contest closing will be selected as the winner.
Likes will be calculated via a verified 3rd party app. - $500.00 winning payment will not be made until files are secured. Native and fully-editable, layered files required are: .psd, .ai and/or .indd
Banner Design Requirements & Specs
- Creativity is highly encouraged! Although there are parameters below, unique and conceptual designs are supported.
- Must use one of the two following as the main theme of your design:

Best 16 days in January - Design must include NWSS logo
- Design must include dates January 8-23, 2022
- Design must include one or more of the photos provided by the NWSS.
Designers may use other imaging from the NWSS per approval by NWSS staff
Designers may use other backgrounds/texture/text elements if they so choose as long as it does not obstruct or change the NWSS logo. - Dimensions:
4ft x 4ft high-resolution, including a 2-inch bleed. - Resolution:
300 dpi, CMYK
This will be for final print purposes. For the initial contest submission, a smaller file size is acceptable as long as it’s quality imaging for the web.
